April 19th, 2010 - first launch of the season!
Despite some launching mishaps, she finally got to her mooring.

May 11th - Took a short sail to nearby Giant's Neck, grabbed a mooring,
listened to jazz on the radio, ate my lunch, and enjoyed the surroundings.

The Giant's Neck and Point o' Woods area is littered with rocks;
it's important to keep a close eye on the charts.

This lonely powerboat was the only boat in the anchorage so far.
In another month it will be full of boats.

May 25th - decided to go for a daysail - the winds were light, and the

conditions were just right to fly my code 0 asymmetrical spinnaker.

I ended up sailing to a little porkchop-shaped spit of land called
"Flat Hammock" near the entrance to Fisher's Island's West Harbor.

I attempted to bring Orion right up to the beach, but the entire beach
was covered with stones.  I decided to anchor about 20 feet away.

After a relaxing lunch, I sailed home.  South Dumpling is in the center

of the picture, and Flat Hammock is to the right.  18 miles logged today!

June 8th: Sailed to New London and docked at the free floating docks
by the train station, walked up the street and grabbed some lunch.

The wind was blowing 15-20 most of the time, so I was unable
to get many other sailing pictures on this trip - I had my hands full!

July 17: My wife Liz and I took friends and family to see fireworks
out in Niantic Bay.  Yes, Virginia, seven people CAN fit in a Mariner.

July 23rd: The first day of the Southeast Connecticut Mariner Fleet Rendezvous
brought very light winds.  Here I am motoring to New London.

Here are the three boats (#1922 Orion, #4096 Ghost, and #2714 Dog Daze)
in New London
We had a great time despite the calm wind and rain.

July 24th: Here I am sailing the following day to Bushy Point Beach, Groton.
For more Rendezvous pictures, check out the Picasa Web Album.

August 31st: Spent most of the day sailing to Giant's Neck.
Here I am anchored next to a beautiful catboat.

After lunch, I explored the nearby cove and marshlands in my Dyer Dhow.

October 20th: Sailed around Millstone to Jordan Cove and
hooked onto a mooring to read a magazine, listen to music and take a nap.

It was a wonderful way to spend a fall afternoon.
Check out many more pictures in the Picasa web album.

November 2nd: Decided to take one final sail
out in Niantic Bay before hauling
Orion for the winter.

The "winter wind" had arrived, gusting anywhere from 5-15 knots and
constantly changing direction.  The windchill was 38.2º - it was cold!

After a two-hour sail, I decided to pack it in.  Here I am
motoring up the Niantic River channel.

Safely back on her mooring.  Next week I'll haul her out, bring her back home
and start the winter maintenance.  Farewell to the 2010 sailing season!
