O'Day Mariner #1922, "Orion"

Welcome to the webpage of O'Day Mariner #1922.  The purpose of this site is to document and demonstrate the rehabilitation and upgrading of this classic O'Day sailboat.  This is not to say there are no other techniques or possibilities; the work I chose to do was simply based on my own desires.  Hopefully this will help anyone else interested performing similar tasks.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

02.08.10 - What a great picture.  This is L'Emeraude, Mariner #1588, during a September sail last year.  Owned by Hubert Cormier, she is one of the many Canadian Mariners and is sailed in New Brunswick.  Like Orion, she is one of the "mid-model" boats, retaining the mahogany coaming tops, forward hatch and the classic "bump-top" cabin from the earlier-style boats, but made into a "2+2" by raising the cockpit floor and adding two quarter berths as well as enclosing the cabin.  One would be hard-pressed to find a nicer-looking boat.

02.08.10 - The Mariner Class Association's periodic newsletter, Notice to Mariners, is scheduled to be mailed sometime in the next few weeks.  Join now if you are not currently a member to receive this great resource - and also have access to all the past newsletters online!

01.11.10 - A recent e-mail from Dave Whittier at Stuart Marine mentions that his yard has been overflowing with restoration and repair jobs.  Be sure to consider him if you are hoping to restore your boat and simply do not have the opportunity to do it yourself.

01.02.10 - Tim Reiche, owner of Mariner #2170 Maggie, has been involved in a little restoration work of his own.  Be sure to check out his blog here to follow the work he will be doing, including flipping the boat over (!) and working on the bottom.

01.02.10 - The Sail Trim and Rig Tuning Seminar for Mariner Class Association members, originally scheduled for January 23rd in Waterford, Connecticut, has been postponed.

02.07.10 - More work was done on the deck core today - I was able to bring Orion outside to sand the area and get it ready to be faired with epoxy and fairing compound.

02.01.10 - While work on the deck core has halted temporarily due to illness and extremely cold weather, I updated the "Pic of the Weeks" page.  There are now 65 fantastic pictures of boats that had been featured on the front page starting back in November of 2008.

01.25.10 - The deck core page continues to grow as I fiberglassed over the new deck core.  The next step is to cut off excess fiberglass, sand the area and fair it.

01.22.10 - Updated the deck core page now that the new G-10 core has been installed.  This marks a big milestone; the next task is to fiberglass over it and then see about repairing the cabin arch.

gobscreen.jpg (421034 bytes)Thanks to Good Old Boat for listing this site under their "Sailors' Blogs & Sites"; they are another great website and magazine whose tagline is, "The Sailing Magazine for the rest of us!"

scascreen.jpg (398821 bytes)Also thanks to Small Craft Advisor for linking this site back in June.  They are another great website and magazine that reviewed the Mariner in Edition No. 49.
