O'Day Mariner #1922, "Orion"

Welcome to the webpage of O'Day Mariner #1922.  The purpose of this site is to document and demonstrate the rehabilitation and upgrading of this classic O'Day sailboat.  This is not to say there are no other techniques or possibilities; the work I chose to do was simply based on my own desires.  Hopefully this will help anyone else interested performing similar tasks.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

08.30.10 - Rich Weston is the new VP of Membership in the Mariner Class Association, and he and a friend recently trailered Rich's boat, #2290 Sweet Caroline, from Riverton, New Jersey to Lake Owasco, one of the Finger Lakes in New York.  Rich writes, "What a great time we had. The lake was quiet and peaceful during the week, and most times I was on the water I was the only boat in sight."  A marina, seven miles away from the house in which they stayed, was the only option for launching and retrieving the boat, two hours of motoring each way.  But, as Rich says, "I was determined and it worked out fine."

davidwolfe.jpg (319153 bytes)08.23.10 - Mariner owner David Wolfe takes a trip with his wife from Maryland to Connecticut each year for two weeks.  We were able to get together last week and go sailing on Orion - it is always nice to meet another Mariner sailor!

08.04.10 - The results for the 2010 Mariner Nationals held this past weekend at the Narrasketuck Yacht Club on Long Island has been posted.  Click here for the list to see where everybody placed.

08.02.10 - I met Tim and Erin Reiche at the annual meeting this past weekend - their restoration of #2170 Maggie is almost complete!  They just installed opening portlights like I did with Orion.  Check out their restoration blog.

07.31.10 - Yesterday, at the Mariner Class Association's annual meeting, I had the honor of being elected the Association's next President.  It has been a privilege to serve on the Board as VP Membership for the past year and a half, and I look forward to working with the current Executive Board.

08.09.10 - Added a new advertisement from 1965 I received featuring Mariner #303.  I also updated one of the other ads I had previously thought was from 1966; I now believe it is from 1964.

08.09.10 - Added another Picasa album of the 2009 Southeast Connecticut Mariner Rendezvous.

08.02.10 - Uploaded three picture albums to a new Picasa web album site.  While I will still add pictures to the 2010 Sailing page, I will occasionally upload full albums of various trips to Picasa.

07.28.10 - Added more pictures to the 2010 Sailing page after taking guests out for evening fireworks and also after the Southeast Connecticut Mariner Fleet Rendezvous this past weekend.

07.16.10 - Made a brand new page on my battery-operated navigation lights.  Take a look to see how I mounted the bow lights, stern light and the anchor light.

gobscreen.jpg (421034 bytes)Thanks to Good Old Boat for listing this site under their "Sailors' Blogs & Sites"; they are another great website and magazine whose tagline is, "The Sailing Magazine for the rest of us!"

scascreen.jpg (398821 bytes)Also thanks to Small Craft Advisor for linking this site back in June.  They are another great website and magazine that reviewed the Mariner in Edition No. 49.
