Raised in Niantic, Connecticut, Nathan began studying piano with Dr. Judith Mack of Oakdale at age eight. He quickly found an interest in music of the church, having had a strong religious upbringing. He progressed quite rapidly; in eighth grade, at age thirteen, Nathan became the substitute organist of the First Congregational Church in New London. At age fifteen he auditioned for and was awarded the Roberta Bitgood Organ Scholarship. Upon completion of high school, he accepted the position of Organist and Director of Music at the New London church.
Nathan's formal organ training has been with Czech organist and composer Godfrey Tomanek of Old Lyme, and in 2004, Nathan was awarded the Colleague Certification by the American Guild of Organists. Since then he has performed numerous organ recitals and has served on the Executive Board of the New London County Chapter of the AGO.
Nathan's musical talents led him to direct Handbell choirs, establish a popular Lenten organ concert series and create a second part-time position at the New London church dedicated to musical outreach concerts. Named "director of choice" by the New London Clergy Association, he coordinated and directed music for city-wide interfaith services.
In October of 2005, Nathan accepted the position of Director of Music Ministry at the First Congregational Church of Madison, Connecticut. He currently lives with his wife, Elizabeth, in Wallingford.
